Are you interested in one of our open positions, but not sure if you are ready yet? Have you started learning programming but feel like you could use some guidance? Have you applied for an IT vacancy in the past, but got rejected? This is your chance to showcase your knowledge and improve your skills fast and completely free of charge 🤩

The NIX Learning and Development Center has been busy lately. Besides the free IT courses, they have organized a series of workshops to grab the attention of potential candidates, support them with a hands-on experience, and offer them the opportunity to join our team.
In March, a Golang Workshop and a QA Marathon took place, and in April, a .NET Workshop. To learn more about these events and the impact they have on our applicants and our community, we sat down with the main organizers, Kata Grepaly and Oleksii Rubel ✨
The Main Purpose of Organizing Free IT Workshops
Attending free workshops are a great way for you to gain hands-on experience and learn from experts. It is also our goal to develop an international IT community and give everyone a chance to realize themselves in the IT world.
The classic recruiting process is all about sending CVs and preparing for interviews. However, this approach can be a bit soulless in many cases. Especially because the outcome is always binary: the applicants either get accepted or rejected.
And that can leave candidates frustrated, not knowing what went wrong, since they don’t know the reason for the outcome 🤔
Educational events are a great alternative to assess candidates. Here we can check their soft skills, tech skills, and their willingness to improve, among many other things. And we can offer more options to the people attending, like suggesting they take one of our courses or recommending them for one of our open positions.
Many candidates think that they are ready for a Junior position after finishing one course, but in reality, they are missing bits of knowledge. These events can point out the ways they still need to improve their skills, and then our courses can fill in the gaps.
Workshops also offer candidates a chance to showcase their skills in action. Interviews can be challenging, especially for those who are introverted, shy, or nervous. But here we can assess them in a fun, interactive way, and see how they act in a more natural, cooperative environment. Some candidates who were initially rejected at the technical interview changed the experts’ minds during the event.”
Looking at the statistics, approximately 50% of our workshop participants are recommended for our courses afterwards. Around 80% of those who complete these courses receive a job offer. This means that you have a high possibility of walking away from an event with a ticket for a free course and an IT career in your pocket 😯
Get Your Foot in the Door or Discover a New Direction
Whatever the outcome, these events provide incredible value for the participants. They can learn from experts and understand how they can further improve their skills, and what steps they need to take to get the IT position of their dreams. 💖

This is what they said about one of our recent events:
Thank you! I really enjoyed participating in the Marathon! These two days were filled with new and exciting experiences. The video materials were very informative. Looking forward to the feedback!
Everything was good, the team is lively and outgoing, you’re doing a great job. Been fun finding bugs.😊
For me, it was a great experience. I cannot point out anything that should be changed. It was perfect!!!
The organizers themselves were also happy to share a few success stories.
One of my favorite examples is a candidate whom I first met at the Jobverse job fair. I had a very nice conversation with him, and later he applied for a Junior DevOps position at NIX. However, he also joined our QA Marathon and the .NET Workshop. He showed excellent talent in both events, and now he has received an offer for the Junior DevOps role.
It also happened that someone changed their mind about their specialization and career path after attending our event. For example, another candidate, who applied for the Junior Automation QA position, was rejected by HR because he didn’t have the relevant experience. However, he didn’t give up and went on to join our .NET course. Now, he has a very good chance of receiving a .NET Developer offer after finishing the training.
The Benefits of Participating in These IT Events
In general, these workshops allow you to join an international IT community, gain hands-on experience, and put theoretical knowledge into practice.
The single-day events provide a great opportunity to focus on specific skill sets and gain new knowledge within a few hours. The longer events, such as the QA Marathon, usually have both online and offline parts. The attendees can try themselves in a new field, and see whether they fit into the role.
They receive access to high-quality materials, feedback for their homework, and even personal mentors who support them. During the offline parts, they can discover the NIX office and see if they like the atmosphere and our community. 🤗
Courses and events are great ways to support the next generation of IT experts. We invest a great deal in our participants by educating them, especially since we have our own specialists acting as mentors and teachers. So, we need to be certain of their potential and their willingness to learn and grow. That’s why these types of assessments are crucial for the future of our community.
Speaking of the future, the Learning and Development team is already preparing the next educational events, including a QA Cybersecurity Marathon and a Java Bootcamp. 🧑💻
