About the Project
- This position is suited to an experienced database professional who takes ownership of production environments and treats database stability as an engineering discipline rather than a reactive function. You will work across a portfolio of engagements spanning multiple industries, with SQL Server as the constant across all of them. The environments you join will typically be in production and often inherited. Your role is to bring order: resolve what is broken, address what is slow, and establish the monitoring and standards that prevent issues from reaching users in the first place. Your first engagement is a stabilization project where you will have the opportunity to make a measurable impact from day one.
Taking ownership of production database stability across engagements
Designing and implementing monitoring and alerting that surfaces failures before they are reported by users
Tuning performance across business-critical systems, including core applications, accounting platforms, CRM, and ERP environments
Reviewing and hardening backup procedures, recovery processes, security configurations, and maintenance jobs
Documenting your work clearly and establishing the standard for how databases are managed across the practice
Core platform: SQL Server – administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability
Infrastructure: On-premises, Azure, and hybrid environments
Application layer: .NET and Angular – sufficient familiarity to trace issues back to the data layer
Delivery: Continuous Delivery pipeline with versioned, reversible database change management
Senior-level SQL Server administration experience in production environments, including systems that were inherited rather than designed from scratch
Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve incidents under time pressure, with a focus on root cause resolution
Strong command of performance tuning: execution plans, indexing strategy, wait statistics, TempDB and memory pressure, workload-appropriate configuration
Experience designing monitoring and alerting from the ground up: jobs, backups, disk, replication, query regressions
Solid backup and recovery practice: verified backups, tested restores, and RPO/RTO commitments the business can rely on
Ability to assess and improve legacy database structures safely and methodically
Familiarity with Continuous Delivery for database changes: versioning, safe migrations, and rollback procedures
Clear, direct communication with teams – including the ability to explain technical issues and their business impact in accessible terms
Azure SQL managed services and hybrid connectivity
High availability configurations: Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, log shipping
Administration automation via PowerShell or dbatools
Application-level profiling in .NET environments
Prior work with accounting, CRM, or ERP databases and their associated reporting workloads
What This Role Offers
- This is a position for someone who has spent years working with production systems that matter. If you have built your expertise maintaining and improving complex environments and take professional pride in the reliability of the systems you are responsible for, this role is likely a strong fit.
