Canoe Trip: The NIX Web Department Switched Their Screens and Keyboards for Boats and Paddles 🚣♂️
Have you ever been on a boat trip? Well, our Web Department decided to swap the usual team-building ideas for a real adventure this August. Let us tell you all about it!
The crew of 70 participants took buses to Tahitótfalu, a lovely village by the Danube river, where the adventure started 🧭
After a quick training with the official tour guides, the team split up into groups of 4-8 people and got into the boats.
During the trip, there was also time for a quick swim 🏊
That’s when the rain started…
From Storm to Safety 🌩️
“As we were paddling down the Danube, BAM, suddenly a terrible storm found us in the middle of the river. With lightning, thunder, and heavy rain, all of it! We felt vulnerable, and all we could do was to hold onto each others’ boats to not get separated” — remembers Ihor Kazubek.
“We had to use different tools and sponges to scoop out the water from the boat.” — says Illia Popov.
“We couldn’t see anything from the fog, but our leaders decided to stay in the water. They didn’t want to give up the trip and rather used this opportunity to strengthen the team morale.”
“It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Some of us felt a bit cold, and it was definitely uncomfortable. But the heavy rain stopped after 20 minutes, and then we were able to move on.”
Mission: Cooking Together 🍲
At the end of the journey, the NIXs arrived at Római-part, a beach above Budapest.
They could choose between 2 tasks.
The first group was responsible for slicing the vegetables and helping the tour guides prepare the meal, a mouth-watering Paprikás krumpli, a traditional Hungarian dish 🥄
The other team pulled the boats to the shore and helped lift them onto the carrier.
They had a delicious meal together and called it a day. They were tired but full of memories and exciting stories they couldn’t wait to share 🤩
“It was my first time doing such a sport, and I thought I might have aching arms by the end. But it was easier than I expected”—says Illia.
Máté Kántor had previous kayaking experience, but this trip was also special to him.
“My favorite part of the trip was the storm, it was a completely new experience for me, even though I was constantly near water all my life. It was scary but also exciting at the same time. I was hesitant about going on the trip but looking back, I would do it again 100%.”
“It was an amazing team-building experience—definitely better than just meeting in a bar. You know, at most of these events you spend your time with your friends.
But now I was sharing a boat with colleagues that I had never met before. It was a great opportunity to bond, paddle together, and try to synchronize our moves. I felt the team spirit and the need for cooperation”—says Ihor.
“Maybe next year we will try to organize the trip to be longer than one day. One thing is for sure: we will definitely repeat this activity in the future.”
